Track I: Issues Facing Latino Families & Fathers (In Spanish Only)
Workshop Description: (Emphasis on Latino Fathers) This workshop addresses how your grantee can encourage Latino Spanish Speaking Male Involvement/Fatherhood Development in your program. Participants will learn the various stages of the strategic plan, how to design, develop and implement a comprehensive fathers’ recognition event and techniques to enhance workshops and seminars for fathers.

Track II: Promising Practices in Fatherhood Service Development Part I
Workshop Description: The workshop focus will be on assessing client and practitioners needs; working with clients in one-on-one and group settings; enhancing group facilitation skills; applying case management strategies; and using effective recruitment and retention techniques.

Track III: Skills for Today’s Parents/ Parenting Demystified Part I
Workshop Description: Mr. Shedlin , a father and grandfather will share the insights and suggestions picked up from hundreds of youth (5 to 21 year olds), dads and granddads (16 to 87 year olds) who he interviewed in three countries for his book, Lifelong DADDYING: What it takes to be the Dad you Want to Be (in progress). Topics covered will include 5 areas of primary parental responsibility; 17 qualities kids most want and need from their parents; and 25 key things research says about child development.

Track IV: Issues Facing Native American Families Part I
Workshop Description: This is a dynamic Five (5) hour seminar that has been adapted to meet the needs of young fathers, fathers, tribal leaders, practitioners and those who want to work with both off and on reservation fathers and families. Topics will include: Tribal traditions: Male vs. Female Roles; tribal values vs. values of other cultures; the effect of outside influences; teenage communication ; problem solving/accountability and the boarding school years.

Track V: Grant Writing for Beginners
Workshop Description: Participants will learn the basic steps of how to develop, organize and write a grant proposal, including the key parts of the proposal and how to determine what information the funder requests. Grant Writing Basics is a beginning to intermediate level presentation for individuals new to the grant writing arena. The session will include tips on researching and organizing a basic grant proposal.

Workshop Description: This workshop will focus on exploring the lack of male involvement in family support programs from a historical and social context. How can we get men involved with their own families? The presenters will discuss some of the historical, cultural, social, ethnic and racial factors that have prevented male involvement and how it is important to first develop a relationship with our fathers before we solicit their involvement.

Workshop Description: Historically, teen fathers represent a grossly underserved population. This workshop will provide professionals with a toolbox full of resources designed to engage adolescent fathers. Often viewed as an “unreachable” population, the workshop will address solution-oriented approaches to assist teen fathers as they seek to improve parenting techniques.

Title: Men on a Mission: Allowing Men to Make a Difference
Summary: This energetic, motivating session will focus on ideas to start and/or enhance your male involvement program. Ideas for program development and using local financial resources to aid your program will be explored.

Title: Male Pregnancy Prevention: Unlocking the Keys to the World of Boys
Summary: Designed to address many of the core needs of practitioners who work with adolescent and young adult males. The workshop will demonstrate how unhealthy social, emotional and psychological values and attitudes contribute to adolescent male’s perceptions of sex, sexuality and manhood. Practitioners will leave this workshop with a “tool box” full of strategies that will allow them to engage these males around responsible decision-making, lifestyles and adolescent male pregnancy prevention. Finally, this workshop will answer many of the myths, stereotypes and other relevant questions that practitioners have about how to develop programming for males that addresses reproductive health and sexuality.
