A Letter from the Hispanic Family Initiative
President, Larry Savala
It is my pleasure to host the 2009 Texas Fatherhood Summit along with our Summit partners, Administration for Children and Families Region VI, Father and Families Coalition of America, Urban Strategies, National Alliance for Hispanic Families and Project Grad USA.
Three years ago my son’s life was prematurely ended as he was innocently caught up in the cross-fire of violence in our city. Unfortunately, this type of grief and loss is shared by many families throughout the country.
In spite of this tragedy, however, more than ever, I know that there Is hope for our children, our families and our communities. I also understand the significance and importance of being a strong father who can assist his family through a crisis while keeping a gentle heart.
At the first-ever Texas Fatherhood Summit we hope to motivate, educate and inspire leaders such as you to reach out to the men and young men in your schools, communities and city. We have invited national experts in effective practices, strategies and program development to equip you with the tools you need to bring hope to the men and young men you work with on a daily basis.
